Artist Statement
I have always loved jewelry. Even as a child, I was mesmerized by it. I spent hours creating and taking apart any jewelry I could find. It is possible that some of my mother’s jewelry may have mysteriously disappeared! The many possibilities for creating beautiful jewelry continued to fascinate me from childhood into adulthood. In 2005, I took my first silversmithing class, and it changed everything! From that point on, I focused on silversmithing for my jewelry design. I embraced the more sophisticated techniques these skills offered me. I have continued to study and explore new techniques to keep my love for jewelry design alive.
Bio
Nancy is an educator and artist. She devoted 42 years to the students and teachers in the Howard County Public School System. Nancy taught secondary English and instructional technology. While the focus of her county teaching was English and technology, art was often brought in as a meaningful element. For instance, when her 6th grade students were writing and illustrating picture books, she ensured that they had lessons in art and illustration. Nancy continues to work with students by tutoring high school students in English and American History.
Although teaching is Nancy’s profession, designing jewelry has always been an essential part of Nancy’s life. Jewelry design became an even more important part of Nancy’s life about 20 years ago when she founded her business and shifted her jewelry design focus to silversmithing. Nancy lives in Ellicott City, MD with her family.
